NCCCO Signal Person Certification

NCCCO Certification Requirements:
You must successfully complete a Written and Practical Exam. Upon successful completion of both exams, you will be issued a NCCCO Signal Person Certification card, valid for (5) years that is recognized by Insurance Companies throughout North America, as well as Federal OSHA.
Written Exam Prep Course:
You will be given information to successfully complete the NCCCO Signal Person Written Examination. You will become familiar with proper crane operations and crane site set up. You will be proficient in recognizing electrical and jobsite hazards, and become familiar with basic crane operation rules and regulations, as stated in the current OSHA 1926.550 and ANSI B30.5.
Practical Exam Prep Course:
You become knowledgeable of proper crane hand and voice signals as specified by ANSI B30.5. You will be able to signal all Mobile and Tower Cranes, with either hand or voice signals. When you successfully complete the NCCCO Signal Person certification, you will be in compliance with the new OSHA 1926.1428 rules and regulations that govern the certification of crane Signal Person.

Federal OSHA 1926.1428- Signal Person Certification: C-DAC " Cranes Derricks Advisory Committee"
(a) The employer of the signal person shall ensure that each signal person meets the Qualification Requirements (paragraph (c) of this section) prior to giving any signals.
(c) Qualification Requirements. Each signal person must:
(1) Know and understand the type of signals used. If hand signals are used, the signal person must know and understand the Standard Method for hand signals. (2) Be competent in the application of the type of signals used. (3) Have a basic
understanding of equipment operation and limitations, including the crane dynamics involved in swinging and stopping loads and boom deflection from hoisting loads. (4) Know and understand the relevant requirements of § 1926.1419 through
§ 1926.1422 and § 1926.1428. (5) Demonstrate that he/she meets the requirements in paragraph (c)(1) through (4) of this section through a verbal or written test, and through a practical test.
***Note*** All certification programs must meet the criteria set forth by Federal OSHA 1926.1428 to be deemed valid. NCCCO Signal Person Program meets the Federal OSHA criteria.




Universal Crane Services fully endorses the National Certification Program offered by the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO) and will prepare candidates for the CCO test.
